Trends That Won’t Go Out of Style

Timeless Materials

One thing is true, natural materials will never be out of style and combining these materials create a great timeless contrast. Think linen curtains, a leather sofa on top of layered jute and wool rugs with a wood table, with a rock fireplace. Marble countertops, backsplashes, or flooring. The key here is that nature itself is timeless. As humans, being out in nature is our way of feeling connected with creation itself. Bringing the outdoors inside creates a calming, harmonious atmosphere into your space.

We love design! While trends have a reason to be here, and allow your space to feel more up-to-date, keeping classic timeless pieces as the foundation of your design while incorporating trendy touches will allow for a wow-factor without continuously dumping money into your homes design every 5-10 years. In this article, we will share our favorite classics with you as well as ideas on how to add pops of what’s in style now.

Part of great design is figuring out where to best invest your time & money.

Timeless Colors

Colors with contrast. While I love a good black & white contrast that has proven to be in style time after time, adding pops of color against stark white walls, or a white sofa in a boldly painted room. My favorite trend right now is painted ceilings. This allows you to keep your walls white, the timeless option, while incorporating a wow-factor in the room. Whether painting your walls or ceiling, I recommend sticking with a timeless color such as: White, sage green, black, emerald green, navy blue, champagne pink, light gray, slate blue, taupe.

Herringbone Pattern

Not to be confused for its close cousin chevron, herringbone shows up as a horsehair cloth found in Ireland, dating to somewhere between 750 and 600 BCE. It was also found in indigenous North American basketry. It wasn't until the 16th century that the herringbone pattern was used as parquet flooring. Since then we have been incorporating it into various textiles, furniture pieces such as sofa’s, and design elements such as kitchen and bathroom backsplashes. This is one of my g0-to’s for incporating visual texture into a design, while keeping the material itself more traditional.

Timeless Patterns

Plaids & Stripes.

Traditional Molding

Crown molding is the trim that separates the wall from the ceiling, creating a polished, thought-out look. While it is not necessary in some homes (think adobe, earthy homes), it is a beautiful, timeless addition to your traditional home. The thicker the molding, the bolder the statement.

Vintage Furniture

There are so many fun vintage pieces you can add to a space. The fact that they are vintage and still on the market is a testimony in itself that they have stood the test of time. Have you noticed that there are furniture manufacturers who are designing pieces that mimic vintage pieces? A true vintage piece typically has great craftsmanship involved as well as, let’s face it, most things were just built better back then. You have a variety of vintage pieces to choose from… buffet tables, gilded mirrors, vintage lamps, and so much more! I do recommend, unless vintage is your design style, to stick with just a few pieces and mix in some modern pieces. Click here to browse various design styles and find yours.

Clean Lines

Timeless design is very transitional. It is a design where you can add some fun boho pillows and a wall hanging one season, then a large traditional centerpiece the next. It is wow-factor without being busy.

Built-Ins

There aren’t many things that elevate a design like custom built-ins. This trend has been popular for centuries, providing amazing storage solutions for your space.

These are just guidelines to help you with your overall vision. When it comes to truly designing a space, the best way to keep it timeless is to incorporate things YOU love. Because, at the end of the day, your space should reflect who you are.
