The Best Fall Colors
and where to find your inspiration
I love fall.
For the last few weeks, when you step outside you can tell that fall is trying its best to make an entrance. The air seems a little crisper, you can smell the rain, and every now and then you will feel a breeze that fall is reminding you, “I am almost there”. Here in my hometown, fall is also the beginning of our favorite season of all… FOOTBALL.
Our downtown streets are lined with stores that have set pumpkins outside of their doors. Pumpkin spice & apple cider everything is introduced to local bakeries and coffee shops. Plaid becomes a wardrobe staple again. The river takes on a whole new life than in previous months. Where it was once filled with swimsuits and floaties making splashes in the water, it is now surrounded by blankets, picnics and campfires gathered around by families roasting s’mores. Fall is here.
As a nature enthusiast, I love fall. As a wife & mom, I love fall. As a designer… I love fall.
As we begin to prepare for it to look like fall throughout our homes, I want to share some inspiration on where to find your fall color scheme this year. Inspiration is all around us, especially the closer we get.
What are your favorite team’s colors? Maroons, deep blues, golds, purples, reds, and greens are beautiful fall colors as well. Even if it isn’t a traditional jewel or fall tone, you can work it into the overall design. One of my son’s colors is white so I am incorporating dried white grasses and florals. It adds another layer of texture that works beautifully with the overall decor design.
I want to start with these two question: When you think of fall, what do you think of? What are your happiest or most treasured memories of fall?
The answer to those will help us develop a decor atmosphere that makes you feel warm, cozy, and triggers those good memories.

2. Your Favorite Places to Travel in the Fall
3. Nature
How incredible is it that we live in a world where inspiration is all around us, all that we have to do is go outside? Go on a walk and be sure to bring your phone this time. Try to look at things differently. Be inspired by the way a twig bends, a wild mushroom grows, or the leaves fall to the ground. Pay attention to the colors and the textures. Take a ton of pictures so that when you get home, you can go through them and remember what caught your eye. Then begin realizing what colors you were most drawn to.
3. Your Fall Wardrobe
What are your favorite places to visit during the fall? Is it a favorite coffee shop? Is it the desert? The river? A store that goes all out in decorating? The mountains? What are your favorite things about this place? Capturing the colors that surround your favorite place as well as materials and pieces that can be found there, will make your home feel cozy.
Tip: Collect pieces from your favorite place and use them for decor inside your home. Example: A vase 3/4 full of sand and pretty wood pieces. Rocks, crystals, and seeds from native trees. Leaves collected, attached to yarn or string, and then strung across your mantle creating a natural dried leaf banner. Creating decor out of found elements personalizes your space and is a sweet reminder every time you walk by.
Your fall wardrobe is a great place to go for inspiration. The colors and materials that are already in there are things that you love and feel most comfortable in. Jewel tones, neutrals, pops of color. Take a moment to go look at your fall wardrobe and notice the colors that make it up. Those are always great colors to use when wanting to create a space where you feel most like yourself.
